Craaaaaaaazy Lore Dump
Welcome back!
Just as we talked about last time, in this devlog we’re covering Platinum Crown, which takes place in the lands and sands of Celestine. This is a very fantastical land of creatures undiscovered and magic unknown! Thus, in this iteration I’d like to take a little time to talk about two of the other creatures in the world; the elves and the gifted.
The Elves, creatures from the Shimmer, The Glistening Forest, The Land of Countless Names, The Green Seas of Beauty. These lands, a reflection of the “real world” are but a mirror. One of many mirrors, actually. The creatures that live here, warped beings made of nature and essence… the same essence that formed the gods once countless years back. These were the Elves. Their connection to nature bound them to a life of appreciating the place from which they came. Their nature is generally one of pacifism, but if somebody threatens life, the Elves see it as a needed sacrifice. Those who consciously harm the forests, set fires, or take lives are deemed a force of imbalance, and when a creature (humanoid or not) commits many “imbalances” over a period of time, the Elves attack. Thus, these beings are calculated and cunning, just as much as they are scholars.
Like any other humanoid life, the Elves find themselves with a vast variation amidst their people, but they use this variation to their benefit. Those without a drive for mana dedicate themselves to a life of physical jobs. Whether that be being a grove-tender, one who cares for the nature of the forest and acts as a safeguard for the trees of old, or a warrior who removes those who cause harm to the forests. The Elves have a natural disposition towards the mana in living creatures, and have a tendency to take their task to the extreme due to their long lifespans. Arborists know all there is to know about their fields, and continually push the bounds of what nature is thought to do. Warriors spend every day mastering the styles of their predecessors, as well as creating their own. Everybody fits like a cog in the grand system of the colony.
Then there is the Gifted, beings once human in nature. Their title, Gifted came about due to how this race began… or rather, was created. The Divine Court of Celestine sat down as they gained more power from the worship of their people, and decided to each try their own experiment. Each god took a special sect of their followers and bestowed them with gifts of fragments of their power unseen to others. Even their most pious clerics had but slices of the power they gave out. These gifts manifested themselves as physical links to their patron deities. For example, the children of Skol, Goddess of the Forge, were a group of gifted that inherited her Draconic appearance, and as such these people gained draconic wings that could shield them from hot temperatures, as well as horns and an inherent resilience to heat. This gave the Gifted of Skol an inhuman appearance to some, but greatly increased their mana and allowed them to do what they do better; forge.
Humans being themselves decided this was unfair, and settled on removing these gifted from their spaces. Whether it be financially making it impossible to live in a human settlement, or forcing them out with torches and pitchforks, they were forced to leave. These Gifted made their own spaces, with each clan their own people blessed by a different group. Some humans chose to join the clans, and others feared them. No matter what, this meant a new race of humanoid creatures beloved by the gods came into this existence and gave the lands a new force to defend it… or destroy it.
